| Concert Booking Information | | | I'm sure a lot of people never consider organizing a Concert because they assume it will be too complicated and too expensive so here's a brief outline of how straightforward it can be.
The Solo Concerts are an informal mix of songs, stories behind the songs, humour and conversation and are aimed to be entertaining and challenging to everyone, whether committed as Christians or not. Many people use these evenings as a 'non threatening' opportunity to invite friends who are not Christians or who are on the fringes of the Church.
Throughout 2008 the Concerts have, wherever appropriate, included material from 'Cargo' the project I've written which raises the issues of contemporary slavery and it's links with poverty & fairtrade. More info from www.paulfield.com/cargo. I'm happy to continue using 'Cargo' or extracts from it into 2009 or just to give straightforward solo concerts.
I can also lead workshops as 'stand alone events' (for a day or over a weekend) or a shorter, more question and answer based session on the afternoon of a Concert - (on Songwriting / Guitar / Arrangement / Recording / The Music Business (Christian or otherwise) in General etc. etc. Just let me know the areas of interest you think will be most relevant.
It's also sometimes possible to stay over and take part in a Sunday morning service (as long as it's not too early !) after a Saturday Concert.
I'm happy to play to any size audience, however small or large but I'd suggest that to aim for a minimum of 100 (ticket price is obviously up to the organizer but I would say that £5.00 is a good minimum) would make a good atmosphere and also more than cover the basic costs.
If really long distances are involved then there may be some additional expenses to talk about (for example if I was doing an afternoon workshop and evening concert more than 250 miles or so from home (London) I'd really need to come up the night before.
If you, or anyone else you can think of might like to organize this kind of event, please get in touch.
COSTS
For a Solo Concert : £350 + travel at 30p per mile, on the basis that a Piano (electric or acoustic) is provided.
The extra cost for an afternoon workshop before a concert is £50.
No extra costs for taking part in a Sun morning Service following a Saturday Concert if it's just myself. If it's with Mike, it's an extra £100 + our accommodation
PA/TECHNICAL STUFF
I do now carry a small PA system which is basic but fine for small venues (up to about 300 seats). However, these days many Churches or small Halls/Art Centres already have a good 'in house' system. (If I'm going to use an 'in house' system then it's always good to be in touch with whoever is handling the technical side of things well in advance).
I need a Piano (I don't bring one) Acoustic or Electric . Anything with a full weighted Keyboard will do.
If you're providing the PA then I need :
2 good vocal mic's - Shure SM58's are always favorites- on boom stands / Input for acoustic guitar (I use a gadget that includes a DI box so just need an XLR lead from that to a mic input and a power outlet centre stage)/ DI inputs (or mic's) or whatever works for the piano / foldback (1 wedge is OK, 2 is better) / Reverb unit and CD player.
Obviously this all needs to go through a Mixer, Amp and Speakers adequate for the job. It's always best (although I can at a push do it myself) to have someone to run the system
on the night. I need to be in contact with whoever will be in charge of the technical side of things fairly well in advance to make sure there are no 'suprises' on the day !
Lighting is not essential although if there is some way of lighting the stage area and keeping the hall dark it always helps the atmosphere.
I like to use some audio Backing Tracks & Videos/Images which all run from my Laptop so I need a Projector & Screen(s) if possible. (This isn't absolutely essential as I can manage without the Tracks & Visuals but it's great to have if possible).
I can send a Bio/Poster outline/Photo via e-mail for download and printing if required.
