What do we hold on to?
Threads of meaningless Threads of memories Warm, wild, cold, contagious Tie them tightly Thread them flat Squashed In a box Lid tight Hold them till the moment of release The release of letting go Renewed future energy Untie the threads Ruth Field What does love look like?
It has the hands to help others It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy It has eyes to see misery and want It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men This is what love looks like St Augustine We are shadows thrown upon the wall
We are images, what others see How we see ourselves, true Or what we think we perceive Or want to be. We press our nose To the glass of our soul And think that whatever should come Tempest or not We will see our own Shadow cast upon the wall. We will remember that We are our company in our aloneness, That our image is that Of belief battling unbelief, Both in ourselves And when we are in the shadowlands. Edward Steinhardt Promises now made forever
Face the unknown years to come Weaving hopes and dreams together For two lives to share as one Keep us safe when storms assail us Fill us with Your grace again Hold us close when courage fails us Let it be Your love that reigns '39' Paul Field |
